Before the book reaches shelves, it goes to a handful of readers first — people who know what they’re holding when they hold a poem.

The Early Readers team gets the book weeks ahead of release, a direct line to the work as it’s made, and a seat at the table for what comes after.

In return, I’m asking for one thing: an honest reaction, posted publicly, once the book is out.

The Process

  • What You Get

    • Early copy. A digital edition (ebook/PDF) delivered before public release.

    • The inner room. An invite to a private space — where I’ll share drafts, the reasoning behind a line, cover concepts, and what’s coming next, before any of it is public.

    • First access to future work. Early Readers stay on for future collections, not just this one. (Once available) A discount code toward the paperback or hardcover edition.

  • What’s Asked of You

    Being an Early Reader isn’t passive. Here’s the deal:

    • Read the book within the window given (roughly 2–3 weeks).

    • Post an honest review on Amazon and/or Goodreads at or near launch — whatever you actually think. I’m not asking for praise, I’m asking for a real reaction, disclosed as an early copy.

    • Be willing to talk about the work in the private space — a line that confused you is more useful to me than one that didn’t.

  • Who I’m Looking For

    I’m not filling seats — I’m building a small, serious readership. This is likely a fit if:

    • You read poetry regularly, not occasionally

    • You have reference points — Cohen, folk-noir, confessional or image-driven work — and can say what you like or don’t about the mode

    • You’re able to sit with discomfort in a text rather than needing it solved

    • You’ll give a real reaction, not a polite one

  • No — Early Readers is an ongoing group. Once you're in, you stay in for future collections too, not just the one that's currently in progress. I'll only reach out when there's something ready for you.

  • Early copies are digital (ebook/PDF). It's the fastest way to get the work into your hands, and keeps things simple as the group grows.

  • I keep every application on file. Selection isn't permanent — if it's not a fit for the current book, you may still hear from me for a future one.

  • No. You'll be invited each time there's a new release, and it's always your call whether to take that one on. No obligation to participate every round.

  • Yes — for whichever release you're reading, I'll give you a reading window (usually 2–3 weeks) and ask that the review go up at or within a few days of that title's launch. Timing is confirmed per book, not fixed in advance.

  • That's fine, and better to say upfront than force a review. Just let me know when I reach out — I'd rather skip a round than get a review that isn't genuine.
